The Magic of Making Colors from Nature (online)
Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art (Washington DC ), the Freer Gallery of Art, and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, graciously offering this free workshop to celebrate Persian New year Nuwroz, March 13th From 1-3 pm (Eastern Time). We work with Saffron, Turmeric and Tea! No artistic background needed. This is an online workshop.
This workshop is for anyone interested in knowing more about creating inks and paint with natural colors.
We explore the art of making inks from accessible natural plants and vegetables around us; we will create color shades, following by creating a painting piece and introduction to some techniques for painting.
No artistic background is required.
The goals for this workshop are understanding and experiencing nature through the artistic process, noticing how playfulness can open up creative barriers, and enjoying the magic of the colors.

This is a full-day workshop at the beautiful Olney Park, Falls Church, Virginia.
We will be working at the private and covered sheltered location, enjoying nature's natural and open environment and creating inks from Saffron, Hibiscus, and Safflower.
In the first half of the workshop, we create inks through grinding with mortar and pestle and other processes.
We will learn painting techniques for the rest of the day and practice shades and colors through painting pieces.
All material will be provided. Just bring your lunch, drink, and dress comfortably.
No artistic background is needed.
The goals for this workshop are :
Building a better connection with nature and the beautiful natural surrounding of the park
Enjoying the therapeutic aspect of some meditative rituals involves making inks from natural resources
Practicing playfulness and how it can open up the creative self we all have it
Co-creating a piece of art with nature.
