Check these images if you have any doubts (click on the title).

These beautiful abstract pieces created by Eric. J Heller from Eric J. Heller Gallery. He is a member of the Physics and Chemistry faculties of Harvard University, where he also received his Ph.D. in 1973.

He explains: “The images I create go through several stages. The first stage is generation of a raw file that comes from computer simulation of a physical phenomenon. I use several different computer algorithms simulating quantum and classical phenomena. Usually, I write in Fortran©, or use programs written in Mathematica© or Interactive Physics© . The result is a grayscale image consisting of perhaps 25,000,000 pixels of data.”

Sound Waves / Barbershop III:

Barbershop III is a sonogram (simultaneous time-frequency analysis) of a barbershop quartet, specifically a segment of Southern Roses as sung by the Gas House Gang, a particularly elegant barbershop group.

Quantum Quasi Crystal/ Bessel 21:

Bessel 21 is a superposition of 21 plane waves, traveling in 21 evenly spaced directions around the compass, resulting in an approximation to a Bessel function near the center of the “comet”, and in an increasingly disordered structure away from there.

Maps/Dissipation:

Maps are surrogates for “real” dynamical systems. They consist of simple rules for jumping form place to place on a plane.

Dissipation is an image of a mathematical map. The term “map” is used differently here than the usual meaning of the word.
